Introduction: the neonatal jaundice is a frequent pathology of the newborn, with bad repercussions if it is not treated in time, for which the identification of the induction of labor as an associated factor is ideal to be able to avoid it. Objective: To determine if induction of labor is a factor associated with neonatal jaundice. Method: Case and control study where 108 clinical histories of term infants (54 cases with neonatal jaundice and 54 controls without it) were treated in the department of neonatology of the Belén Hospital of Trujillo between 2014 and 2017. The Odds Ratio (OR) for the bivariate analysis and the multivariate analysis by logistic regression was performed to establish the associated factors independently. Results: The frequency of induction of labor in neonates with jaundice and without jaundice was 31 and 13%, respectively, with induction of labor being an associated factor for neonatal jaundice (OR: 3.1). After multivariate analysis the induction of labor (ORa: 3.4), polyglobulia (ORa: 2.8) and cephalohematoma (ORa: 2.5), were independently associated with the appearance of neonatal jaundice. Conclusion: Induction of labor is a factor associated with neonatal jaundice.
