Objective: To establish if metabolic syndrome (Mets) is a factor associated with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women of the gynecology office of Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo. Material and methods: Observational, analytical, cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 138 patients chosen randomly, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The comparison of the variables and covariables of the study groups was performed using Student's T tests for means and Chi-square for proportions. The prevalence OR was obtained from linear logistic regression with a 95% CI. Statistical significance was considered p <0.05. Results: The prevalence of SUI in the study patients was 59%. Only age (p = 0.037), the number of children (p <0.001) and the presence of prolapse (p <0.001) are significantly associated with SUI. The percentage of patients with metabolic syndrome was 51% in patients with SUI compared to 31% in those who had not. The prevalence OR for the metabolic syndrome was 2.217, with a statistically significant value (p = 0.028). In the multivariate analysis, an independent association was found between the metabolic syndrome (p = 0.041), number of children (0.031), and presence of prolapse (p <0.001) with SUI. Conclusion: Mets is a factor associated with stress urinary incontinence.
