Abstract: Objetivo: Establecer si el síndrome metabólico (Mets) es un factor asociado a incontinencia urinaria de esfuerzo (IUE) en las mujeres del consultorio de Ginecología del Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo.
Material y métodos: Estudio observacional, analítico, de corte transversal. La muestra fue de 138 pacientes escogidas al azar, quienes cumplieron los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. La comparación de las variables y covariables de los grupos de estudio se realizó mediante pruebas T de Student para medias y Chi Cuadrado para proporciones. Se obtuvo el OR de prevalencia a partir de regresión logística con un IC al 95%. Se consideró significancia estadística p < 0,05. Resultados: La prevalencia de IUE en las pacientes del estudio fue de 59%. Solo la edad (p=0.037), el número de hijos (p<0.001) y la presencia de prolapso (p<0.001) están significativamente asociadas a la IUE. El porcentaje de pacientes con síndrome metabólico fue de 51% en las pacientes con IUE frente a un 31% en las que no lo padecen. El OR de prevalencia para el síndrome metabólico es de 2.217, con un valor estadísticamente significativo (p=0,028). En el análisis multivariado se encontró asociación independiente del síndrome metabólico (p=0.041), número de hijos (0.031), y presencia de prolapso (p<0.001) con la IUE.
Conclusión: El Mets es un factor asociado a incontinencia urinaria de esfuerzo.
