Objective: Determine the relationship between obesity and psoriasis in adult patients. Methodology and material: An study analytical, longitudinal, retrospective, and case – control study as carried out, where 264 adult patients were included who went through outpatient clinics of Dermatology of the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray during the period 2014 – 2018. Bivariate analysis was used using Chi Square test Pearson with a level of significance of 5%( p < 0,05), with the risk measure of the Odds ratio with its respective 95% confidence interval. For the multivariate analysis, multiple logistic regression with Odds ratios adjusted with their respective 95% confidence intervals was used. Results: 264 patients were included, 88 cases and 176 controls. Obesity was identified in 31.8% of the cases compared to 11.9% of the controls, a difference that was statistically significant (p: 0.0001, OR: 3.44, 95%IC: 1.82-6.53). The most frequent type of psoriasis was plaque (90.9%); regarding comorbidities (dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension), it was found that only dyslipidemia is significantly associated with psoriasis in 68.2% (p:0.017); regarding age, no association was found psoriasis, however, the male sex was found in 55.7% of patients with psoriasis compared to 28.4% in patients without psoriasis (p:0.0001). The OR adjusted for obesity was 3.37 with 95% CI: 1,707-6,651; for dyslipidemia it was 2.31 with an IC95%: 1.288-4.144; for the male sex it was 3.42 with an IC95%: 1.943-6.044. The OR adjusted for obesity was 3.37 with 95% CI: 1,707-6,651; for dyslipidemia it was 2.31 with an IC95%: 1.288-4.144; for the male sex it was 3.42 with an IC95%: 1.943-6.044. Conclusions: Obesity is a risk factor for psoriasis in adult patients, this association being statistically significant.
