The objective of the research was to evaluate the effect of the addition of plantain flour (Plantago major) in the feeding of broiler chickens, submitted to challenge, on the productive and economic behavior. We used 160 male broilers of the Cobb 500 line, one day old, with average initial weight of 51.7 g, evaluated for 42 days in four stages: Start (1 - 7 days), growth I (8-21 days) ), growth II (22-33 days), fattening (34 - 42 days). The chickens were distributed through a randomized complete block design with four treatments (0%, 0.025%, 0.05% and 0.075% inclusion of plantain flour in the diet) and four repetitions. The diets were formulated to cover the nutritional needs of the chickens in each stage. The results were analyzed through the analysis of variance of regression. No significant variation was found (P <0.05) in any of the stages. The highest yields were obtained with 0.075% addition of plantain flour. It is concluded that the addition of plantain flour (Plantago major) in the diet of broilers generates similar responses in the productive behavior in relation to birds fed with diets containing growth promoter.
