To determine if hypomagnesemia is a risk factor for mortality in patients with sepsis of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo. Material and methods: An observational, analytical, case-control study was designed. For this purpose, the medical records of 24 patients with a diagnosis of sepsis who attended the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo during the period 2022-2023 and who died were randomly selected. In the same way, 48 medical records of patients with sepsis who did not die while treated at the same health facility and during the same period were reviewed. Chi square and logistic regression were used for statistical analysis. Results: The frequency of hypomagnesemia in the group of deceased patients was 87.5% and in those who were still alive at hospital discharge it was 91.7% (87.5% vs 91.7%, p>0.05). Logistic regression analysis demonstrated an association between mortality in patients with sepsis with age, APACHE II score and hypomagnesemia (P<0.05). Conclusion: The frequency of hypomagnesemia in deceased sepsis patients was not significantly different than that of those alive sepsis patients at hospital discharge.
