determine whether prematurity is a risk factor for febrile seizures in children under 5 years of age treated at the Regional Docent Hospital in Trujillo from January 2013 to December 2018 Material and Methods: The applied design was observational retrospective analytical cases and controls, in 94 children with febrile seizures with corresponding 188 controls who did not have febrile seizures. Results: Prematurity characterized 11.7% of children with febrile seizures and 3.7% of children without febrile seizures, estimating an OR = 4.23 with its 95% CI 1.28-9.16. The average age was 2 years. In children with febrile seizure, male sex, anemia and low birth weight predominated compared to children who did not present with febrile seizure. The adjusted odds ratio for prematurity was ORa = 3.12. Conclusions: Every child of six months and less than five years of age with a history of prematurity at birth is three times more likely to present a febrile seizure than a child who does not present the aforementioned history. A history of anemia is also a risk factor for febrile seizures.
