Objective: To determine the factors associated with erectile dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes, at the Jorge Reátegui Delgado Hospital, Piura, 2018. Methods: A cross-sectional, prospective, observational, analytical and correlational study was conducted. Ninety-two patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and between 18 and 65 years of age, who did not have neurogenic pathologies or neurocognitive problems, were included. Informed consent was given, after which a data collection card, the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument test and the International Erectile Function Index were applied. To identify the factors associated with erectile dysfunction, multivariate analysis will be applied using Poisson regression, using STATA 14. Results: The prevalence of erectile dysfunction in diabetic patients was 64.1%. Patients with erectile dysfunction were older than 45 years in 69.5% of patients. Married and cohabiting patients represented 81.3% of all participants with erectile dysfunction. 57.6% of respondents with erectile dysfunction reported hypertensive problems and in 50.9% the time of diagnosis of DM-2 was 5 to 11 years. Obesity was identified in 40.7% and overweight in 25.4% of patients with erectile dysfunction. Neuropathy was identified in 39% of patients with erectile dysfunction. Factors associated with erectile dysfunction were patient age, marital status, time to diagnosis of DM-2, BMI and presence of neuropathy. Conclusions: The high prevalence of reported erectile dysfunction leads to a reassessment of the approach to sexual problems within the comprehensive care of the diabetic patient.
