The purpose of this research was to determine if there are differences in academic stress between students in the industrial engineering career V cycle of a public university and a private university who receive virtual classes in times of pandemic during the 2020-1 semester in Trujillo. For this, 195 students participated in the research, 95 belonging to a public university and 100 students belonging to a private university, to whom Edwar Sánchez's Inventory of Academic Stress was applied. The research design was non-experimental, descriptive - comparative, cross-sectional. It was similar for the selection of the sample, probability sampling was used for convenience. The results indicated that the students who belong to the public university present higher levels of stress than the students of the private university, both groups contrasted present a statistically significant difference (p <.05) between them. In addition, in terms of the test indicators, highly significant differences (p <.01) were found in the stressors dimension, while in the dimension of self-perceived stress, physical symptoms, psychological symptoms and behavioral symptoms, no significant differences were found.
