Objective: To identify the association between the use of social networks and smartphones with academic procrastination in high school students of I.E. Enrique López Albújar, Piura-2021. Methods: Observational, cross-sectional, and analytical study. The sample included 174 high school students aged 11 to 16 years, whose parents gave their authorization to answer a virtual questionnaire that included sociodemographic data, the “Social Network and Internet Addiction-Adolescent Risk Scale“, the “Mobile Phone Dependence Test“ and the “Adapted Tuckman Procrastination Scale“. Multivariate analysis was performed, and prevalence ratios were determined using STATA v16. Results: The prevalence of academic procrastination was 47.1%. It was found that 54% of students were male, the mean age was 14.4±1.5 years, 27% belonged to the 5th grade. Likewise, 91.4% had siblings and 29.9% were the firstborn. Regarding internet use, students frequently used 4±1 social networks, used 4.8±1.8 hours of internet daily for leisure purposes and 4.6±1.6 hours daily for academic purposes. The prevalence of addiction to the use of social networks was 25.3% and a high level of dependence to the use of smartphones was identified was 7.5% for the entire sample of students. Multivariate analysis identified that a high and medium level of dependence on smartphone use was associated with a PR of 2.05 and 2.11 respectively for academic procrastination. Conclusions: Dependence on smartphone use is independently associated with academic procrastination.
