To determine if there is an association between cardiometabolic factors and dementia in older adults treated at the Internal Medicine service of Hospital I del Seguro Social in Trujillo. Material and Methods: An observational, analytical and cross-sectional study design was carried out applied to a population of 218 elderly people treated in the Internal Medicine Service of a social security hospital in Trujillo - Peru according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, to Folstein's Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) was applied minutes before admission to the outpatient clinic. Likewise, data on anthropometry, physical activity, years of study and smoking history were obtained. Subsequently, the examination of the clinical history of each interviewed patient was carried out in search of a history of cardiometabolic factors, said information was recorded in the data collection form. Two groups were established: Patients with dementia (n=31) and without dementia (n=187), in both groups a history of cardiometabolic factors was sought. Results: It was found that dyslipidemia (p=0.487), obesity (p=0.666), smoking (p=0.633) and diabetes mellitus (p=0.236) were not associated with dementia since the p-values of the Chi Square test are greater than 0.05. However, between hypertension and dementia (p=0.032 < 0.05) a significant association was found. Regarding sociodemographic factors, a significant association was found in: age (p=0.001), years of study (p=<0.001) and physical inactivity (p=0.016).
