Objective: Determine the relationship between maternal history of preeclampsia and the development of asthma in children. Material and method: An analytical, observational, retrospective case-control study was carried out, where the medical records of 729 children were analyzed meeting the selection criteria. Two groups were included: children with a diagnosis of asthma and without a diagnosis of asthma and its probable association with a maternal history of preeclampsia, who attended the Albrecht Hospital in Trujillo during the years 2016 to 2019. To study the association of the variables of for the aforementioned groups, the Chi square test was used with a significance level of 95% (p value <0.05). Results: The frequency of children diagnosed with asthma and who had a maternal history of preeclampsia was 19.4% compared to 3.7% of those who did not have asthma. The association between the maternal history of preeclampsia and the development of asthma in the offspring of these mothers was statistically significant (p<0,000: OR 6,235; IC 95%:3.302-10.12), so it was determined that children with a maternal history of preeclampsia are 6,235 times more likely to develop asthma in the future. In the multivariate analysis, it was found that male sex, age, family history of asthma and type of delivery were significant. Conclusion: The maternal history of preeclampsia is a risk factor for the development of asthma in children at the Albrecht Hospital
