OBJECTIVE: To determine if maternal obesity is a risk factor for developing complications in full-term newborns. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study population will consist of 126 subjects who meet the selection criteria. Through simple random probabilistic sampling, it will be divided into two groups: the exposed group will consist of 42 obese pregnant women, and the non-exposed group will be composed of 84 non obese pregnant women. RESULTS: The findings of the study on ““Maternal Obesity Associated with Complications in Full-Term Newborns at Hospital III-1 José Cayetano Heredia Piura““ revealed significant associations between maternal obesity and key variables. Women over 30 years old showed a relative risk of 1.96 for neonatal complications. Specific complications, such as macrosomy and contusions, were significantly associated with maternal obesity. These findings emphasize the importance of preventive and prenatal management strategies in obese women to reduce the risk of complications in newborns. CONCLUSION: Statistically significant associations were found between the presence of maternal obesity and the occurrence of complications in full-term newborns at Hospital III-1 José Cayetano Heredia in Piura; both with a p value <0.05, respectively
