Objective: Demonstrate the in vitro antibacterial effect of four concentrations of the ethanolic extract of Caesalpinia spinosa on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Material and methods: An experimental study was carried out. The population consisted of a culture of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, to which the ethanolic extract of Caesalpinia spinosa (tara) was applied to observe its antibacterial effect. Results: It was observed that the ethanolic extract of Caesalpinia spinosa (Tara) showed inhibitory effect in vitro on Pseudomonas aeruginosa when using the different concentrations (25%, 50%, 75% and 100%) and this effect increased in relation directly proportional to the concentrations used. In relation to the inhibition zones, when measured according to the Durafford scale, limit sensitivity was obtained for 25%, mean sensitivity for 50% and 75% and extremely sensitive for 100%. Conclusions: We demonstrate that the ethanolic extract of Caesalpinia spinosa (Tara) presented an inhibitory effect in vitro on Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
