Objective: Determine if mixed breastfeeding is a risk factor for acute otitis media in children under 5 years of age treated at the Hospital de la Amistad Perú Corea Santa Rosa II-2 in Piura 2016 - 2023. Material and method: A retrospective, observational and analytical case-control study was carried out. The sample was made up of 92 children: 46 in the case group and 46 in the control group, selected by simple random probabilistic sampling. The information obtained from the medical records that met the selection criteria was recorded in a data collection form. The data obtained were processed through IBM SPSS Statistics 27. Results: It was evident that 67.4% of children with acute otitis media received mixed breastfeeding, while in the group without acute otitis media it was 37%. This difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05), with an Odds Ratio of 3.53 (95% CI: 1.49 - 8.33), indicating a 3.53 times greater risk of presenting acute otitis media in children with mixed breastfeeding compared to breastfeeding. exclusive. No significant associations were found between intervening variables (Sex, Age, Birth weight, Route of delivery, History of atopy and Area of residence) and the presence of acute otitis media in children under 5 years of age (p > 0.05), none of them. was identified as a risk factor for this condition. Conclusions: It is concluded that mixed breastfeeding is a risk factor for acute otitis media in children under 5 years of age
