Objective: To demonstrate whether hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Material and methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional, retrospective study of cases and controls was carried out, which included 186 patients with acute coronary syndrome according to selection criteria, which were divided into 2 groups: deceased and non-deceased patients, applying the odds ratio, and the chi square test. Results: The mean age, troponin, time of arrival and the frequency of diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension and reduced ejection fraction were significantly higher in the group of deceased compared to the group of non-deceased (p <0.05); the frequency of hypoalbuminemia in deceased SICA patients was 35%; the frequency of hypoalbuminemia in patients with SICA who did not die was 16%; hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome with an odds ratio of 2.86 which was significant (p<0.05; CI 95%: 1.3 –5.4). Conclusion: Hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
