Objective: To determine if child violence is a risk factor for constipation in children treated at Hospital Belen. Material and methods: A case-control study was carried out at the Hospital Belen de Trujillo during January 2020 to December 2022, including 166 children and adolescents between the ages of 8 years old and 14 years old. Data from medical records were collected, and the variables evaluated were: presence of child violence, constipation, age, sex, prematurity, origin, anemia, and intestinal parasitism. Results: Of the 166 participants, 83 children were diagnosed with constipation. Among these children with constipation, it was observed that 26.5% had a history of childhood violence. In contrast, in the group of 83 children without constipation, only 6% had experienced childhood violence. In addition, a statistically significant association was found between constipation and exposure to childhood violence (OR: 5.63, 95% CI: 2.01 - 15.72, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Our results suggest an association between constipation and exposure to childhood violence. Exposure to childhood violence can be considered an important risk factor for the development of constipation in this pediatric population
