The purpose of this study is to carry out a study of the intersection of Avenida América Sur with Prolongación César Vallejo in the city of Trujillo, with Avenida América being one of the main thoroughfares in the town, as well as the Prolongación César Vallejo, since they are mentioned in terms of mobility and accessibility, are classified as a main avenue and a collector respectively, the above described is due to the presence of numerous vehicles that transit along these roads and the diversity of functions that are performed in this area, for all the above is proposed to suggest options to help reduce vehicular chaos and improve the flow in the study area. For all the above mentioned reasons, and with the purpose of acquiring a situational reality regarding the issue of traffic congestion, the variables present in the traffic have been determined, such as the volume that is present in the traffic, the different flow rates present in the study area and the different speeds, for this purpose the study methodologies and relevant operations were applied; Relevant to Road Capacity and Service Levels have been developed according to the methodology mentioned by the HCM for intersections with the presence of traffic lights, not to mention the problem that is evident in relation to the time of the traffic light cycle and the geometry present in the road. Therefore, once the traffic variables are determined, they will be analyzed with the help of the Histogram method proposed by the Traffic Engineering Manual to find the capacity and the level of service presented by the roads and the intersection, followed by a modeling with the help of the Synchro 8 software in order to corroborate the level of service and capacity, as well as to make possible suggestions to improve the flow in the study area. It is concluded that around the week there is a variation in the volumes of mixed vehicles, which have their highest peaks between 7:30am and 8:30pm for each access. South America Avenue is the one that shows a very unfavorable vehicle demand, this is due to the fact that cabs are the ones that represent the highest percentage of vehicles that arrive to transit in all the accesses, to the above mentioned it has to be added a diversification in the vehicle extensions, the geometry of each access, the speed of maximum route, the traffic light cycle and the poor road culture present in our country, which in connection comes to generate a regime of vehicle conglomeration in the whole zone where the study is carried out.
