This descriptive-correlational research was carried out with the purpose of determining the relation between adverse effects and adherence to treatment in adult patients with HIV. The study population consisted of 202 patients who attend an outpatient program for the support program for patients with HIV from the High complexity hospital Virgen de la Puerta. To assess the presence of adverse effects, the report of suspected adverse reactions to antiretroviral medication by Arnao V and Ramirez T. (2010), and the self-reported compliance test, by Morisky DE, Green LW, Levine D (1986), were used. it is an indirect method of measurement based on the voluntary interview, with a crombach alpha of 0.83, according to its author. The results show that there are adverse drugs reactions which are represented according to the degree of severity being 25.7% of cases in grade 3, 70.3% in grade 2 and 4% in grade 1, regarding adherence we find that of 202 patients the 19.3% are 80.7% adherent and non-adherent, with a value of 46.458, and a level of designation p <0.001, including that the variables have an relation with each other.
