Objective: Determine if Adenoidectomy and partial Tonsillectomy is a protecting factor for recurrent bacterial respiratory infection in children treated at Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo. Material and methods: We conducted an analytical, observational, retrospective, cohort study. The study population were 96 pediatric patients with recurrent bacterial respiratory infections treated in the Otolaryngology service of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo during the period 2015 - 2018; which half of the population was exposed to adenoidectomy and parcial tonsilectomy and the other half with conservative treatment; subsequently, one year later, they were evaluated if there was any improvement in each group with their respective treatment. The comparison of variables between both groups of study was carried out using the student T test to means and Chi square to proportions. RR with 95% confidence interval was calculated. Statistical significance was considered if p <0.05. Results: A total of 96 patients were analyzed in the study. The incidence of recurrent bacterial respiratory infection in patients exposed to adenoidectomy and parcial tonsilectomy was 12.5%. The incidence of recurrent bacterial respiratory infection in patients not exposed to surgery was 85.4%. The association between the study variables was significant (p = 0.00) and showed that patients with adenoidectomy and partial tonsillectomy had a RR (95% CI) of 0.15 (0.07-0.31) for bacterial respiratory infection recurrent. In addition, no significant difference was found (p> 0.05) in the number of previous infections, age, sex, obesity, residence and anemia comparing the exposed and unexposed group. Conclusions: Adenoidectomy and partial tonsillectomy is a protecting factor against recurrent bacterial respiratory infections in pediatric patients.
