Evaluate the antimicrobial effect of Acetic Acid at 50% and 100%; and compare it with 0.12% Chlorhexidine in the disinfection of toothbrushes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study is experimental, prospective, cross-sectional and comparative, it was developed in the I.E. No. 80018- Trujillo. 15 students were formed, who brushed once a day for a week without toothpaste to collect their microbial load, in the laboratory, the brush heads were incubated in Tioglycollate for 24h, 0.1ml of each was withdrawn to sow it in petri dishes for 24h (basal record) and 0.2ml to add to the 0.8ml of treatment (acetic acid 50% and 100%, and chlorhexidine 0.12%) in test tubes incubating for 24h. 0.1 ml of each was withdrawn, they were seeded in petri dishes and incubated for 24 hours. Finally, the UFC count was done. (60 petri dishes: 45 treatments and 15 basal). RESULTS: The basal count of 8x106 cfu decreased after treatments, the lowest count was 0.12% chlorhexidine with 1.07 cfu, followed by 100% acetic acid with 3.07 cfu and 50% acetic acid with 4.73 cfu. CONCLUSION: When comparing the concentrations of acetic acid and chlorhexidine, they did not show a statistically significant difference between each other (p=0.993); but when comparing them with the baseline count, it is observed that there is a statistically significant difference (p=0.000). Chlorhexidine 0.12% produces a greater effect, followed by acetic acid 100% and finally acetic acid 50%
