Objectives: To determine if the AIMS65 score is a better predictor of mortality than the Glasgow Blatchford score in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding until 30 days after the event. Materials and methods: A diagnostic test study was conducted, including patients older than 18 years who presented upper gastrointestinal bleeding between 2017 and 2018. The data were analyzed using the ROC curve. Results: Regarding the prediction of mortality, the area under the ROC curve for the Glasgow-Blatchford score was 0.98 (95% confidence interval), the most adequate value of the score to predict mortality was ≥12 (S = 100%, E = 94%, PPV = 68%, NPV = 100%). The area under the ROC curve for the AIMS65 score was 0.96 (95% confidence interval), it was considered that a value ≥2 (S = 100%, E = 90%, PPV = 57%, NPV = 100%) is the more suitable to predict mortality. Conclusions: Both scores are good predictors of mortality. The difference found between the area under the ROC curve of both is minimal and does not allow establishing that one score is better than another, but because of the simplicity of the AIMS65 score, it is recommended to use it.
