Objective: Identify illegal drug use and alcohol consumption as risk factors for extrapulmonary tuberculosis in patients cared for in institutions of the Red Servicios de Salud Trujillo in the period 2016-2017. Material and methods: Applied design of cases and controls, consisting of 156 cases and 312 controls. Medical records were reviewed Results: Illicit drug use was at 0.6% of patients with TBEP, as well as the 3.8% of patients without TBEP, finding differences with p = 0.047, estimating an OR = 0 16 with a 95% CI 0.02 to 1.25%. The consumption of alcohol was present at 1.3% of patients with TBEP, as well as 7.7% of patients without TBEP, finding differences with p = 0.004, estimating an OR = 0.156 with a 95% of 0.36 to 0.67. Conclusions: In patients with extrapulmonary tuberculosis the proportion of illicit drug use was 0.6% and consumption of alcohol 1.3%, being these proportions in comparison with patients with tuberculosis pulmonary settling to drug use illicit does not constitute a risk or protective factor in extrapulmonary tuberculosis, while those who consume alcohol have greater possibilities of suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis than extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
