To identify if there is an association between stress and depression in students who take the subject of Morphophysiology I of the professional school of medicine MATERIAL AND METHOD: An observational, analytical cross-sectional study was carried out, which evaluated 145 students of the morphophysiology I subject at the Antenor Orrego Private University. A virtual survey was applied where there were sociodemographic variables and the DASS 21 test. The statistical analysis used was the chi-square test for qualitative variables and the student's t test for quantitative variables. RESULTS: Of the total number of students who have stress, 85.4% have depression Of the total number of students who do not have stress, 14.3% have depression. If we compare both percentages of depression in those with or without stress, we find that this difference is statistically significant (p <0.05), this also means that stress is associated with depression. The intervening variables that are associated with depression are sex, physical environment and sports or recreational activity, as they have a p-value <0.05. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that stress is a risk factor for depression. And that sports and recreational activities were associated with lower levels of depression.
