The general objective of this research was to improve the rural basic sanitation service in the towns of Huamborco and Yanayaco in the district of Sitacocha - Cajabamba - Cajamarca. Methodologically, it was an applied, descriptive and nonexperimental design research; the study population consisted of the rural basic sanitation systems of the towns of Huamborco and Yanayaco; for data collection, the techniques of direct observation, documentary analysis and laboratory tests were used. The results obtained were undulating terrain and silty sandy soil; with respect to the design parameters, a 0.00% population growth rate and a 20-year period were considered; 577 inhabitants, 184 dwellings, 100l/inhab/day, average consumption of 0.72l/s, maximum daily flow rate of 0.72l/s, maximum daily flow rate of 0.72l/s, maximum daily flow rate of 0.00%. 72l/s, maximum daily flow 0.94l/s and maximum hourly flow 1.44l/s for Huamborco; and for Yanayaco, 139 inhabitants, 31 dwellings, 80l/inhab.day, average consumption of 0.13l/s, maximum daily flow 0.18l/s and maximum hourly flow 0.27l/s. It was concluded that all the components of the basic sanitation systems for the Yanayaco and Huamborco localities were designed based on logical and technical criteria and acceptable engineering standards, guaranteeing that they can efficiently fulfill the purpose for which they were designed.
