In this investigation, the influence of biomass ashes (the biomass used was sugarcane bagasse) as a partial substitute for cement in the design of concrete blocks for non-bearing walls was analyzed. An experimental research design of the unifactorial type was used, in which the percentage of sugarcane bagasse ash (CBCA, for its name in spanish “Cenizas de Bagazo de Caña de Azúzar”) was varied to study the mechanical (compressive strength) and physical propierties (efflorescence, absorption, dimensional variation and warping) of concrete blocks for non-load-bearing walls. The blocks were 19 cm high, 39 cm long and 12 cm wide. For the manufacture of these blocks, both the coarse sand and the crushed stone were obtained from the Chulucanas Quarry with a NMAS=3/8“ and FM=3. Aggregates properties were analyzed through the tests of granulometric analysis, content moisture, absorption, specific gravity, loose unit weight and compacted unit weight. In addition, type I Portland Cement, drinking water from the city of Piura and sugar cane bagasse ash were used, the last one provided by Bioenergía del Chira S.A.C. The mixture design was carried out by the ACI 211.1 method with a 1: 3.9: 3.1 / 35.4 L dosage of the concrete and with a W/C ratio of 0.80. Then, to study their physical and mechanical properties, dimensional variation, absorption, and compressive strength tests were performed according to what is established in NTP 399.604. Also, the blocks were tested for warping and efflorescence according to NTP 399.613. The results obtained in these tests showed that the concrete blocks with the addition of sugarcane bagasse ash meet the requirements given by NTP 399.600 and NTE.070, which means they are considered suitable for use in any construction. However, it was found that as the percentage of substitution increases, the compressive strength of the blocks decreases. In addition to that, the economic benefit was demonstrated with a maximum saving of 104.92 PEN for every thousand concrete blocks.
