To identify the association between the level of knowledge of cervical cancer and predisposition to take a Papanicolaou (PAP) test in women of childbearing age living in Ayabaca during 2021. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, prospective, analytical study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge about cervical cancer in women of childbearing age in the city of Ayabaca, Piura, during the year 2021. The predisposition to have a PAP test was evaluated in these patients, according to the established selection criteria. The data were processed in STATA v.15. A bivariate and multivariate analysis was performed to evaluate the strength of association. Results: This study recruited 179 female participants. The average age of the participants was 32.38 years, with a more prevalent educational level of primary school (32.4%), and they came from the urban area of Ayabaca (88.4%). The level of knowledge among the participants was mostly high (36.3%) and 54.8% stated that they had undergone a PAP. Multivariate analysis identified that women of childbearing age with a medium (PR=1.69, 95%CI=1.11-2.56, p=0.014) and high (PR=2.17, 95%CI=1.48-3.18, p<0.001) level of knowledge about cervical cancer were more likely to have a PAP. Conclusions: Medium and high level of knowledge about cervical cancer increased the prevalence of taking PAP compared to those women of childbearing age with low level of knowledge.
