Objective: To determine if hypoalbuminemia is a predictor of complications in laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed at the Belen Hospital in Trujillo during the year 2021-2023. Material and methods: Observational, retrospective, case-control study. The population was made up of 743 patients operated on by laparoscopic cholecystectomy at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo during the year 2021-2023, while the sample was made up of 182 patients. . For statistical analysis, the chi-square test was used, considering a p Value <0.05 as a significant association, and logistic regression tests. Likewise, the Odd-Ratios (OR) with a 95% confidence interval was calculated. Results: Most patients who experienced complications during laparoscopic cholecystectomy were in the age range of 40 to 64 years. Likewise, female patients predominated (71.4%) and the surgery was mostly emergency (62.6%). The frequency of hypoalbuminemia in patients with or without complications was 56.0% and 8.8% respectively. On the other hand, the frequency of normal albumin values in patients with or without complications was 44% and 91.2%. The p value was 0.000, which indicated that there is a significant association between hypoalbuminemia and complications in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Furthermore, patients with hypoalbuminemia are 13,228 times more likely to experience complications (OR13.228, OR(a) 18.445, CI: 95%). Conclusion: Hypoalbuminemia is a predictor of complications in laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed at the Belen Hospital in Trujillo, 2021-2023
