Demonstrate that increased platelet volume is a risk factor for gestational diabetes in pregnant women at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. VI Method: An analytical observational study of cases and controls was carried out, consisting of 132 pregnant women (44 cases with GD and 88 controls) attended in outpatient obstetrics offices at Hospital Belén de Trujillo in the period 2017 - 2019; in whom MPV information was collected from a routine blood count or at hospital admission in the third trimester. The mean MPV was analyzed with the Student's T test, the association with Odds Ratio, and multivariate analysis with logistic regression. Results: Grade 2 obesity was present in 18.2% of the cases and in 3.4% of the controls (OR: 6.29), the family history of diabetes, was also more frequent in the cases than in the controls (45.5 and 6.8%, respectively), both variables showed a significant association in the multivariate analysis (aOR: 5.52 and 8.65, respectively). Furthermore, 72.7% of the pregnant women with GD presented increased MPV, being a significant associated factor (OR = 4.90, p <0.001), and it remained as an independent associated factor for GD after multivariate analysis (aOR= 6.84; 95%IC: 2.44-19.19, p<0.001)
