To evaluate the association between the initial assessment of diabetic foot and surgical outcome using the San Elian scale at Hospital Jorge Reátegui, 2021. Methods: Observational, analytical, cohort and prospective study. Data were collected from patients with diabetic foot hospitalized at the HJRD from January to December 2021. A questionnaire was developed that included sociodemographic, clinical, and clinical follow-up data according to the Saint Elian scale. Data were processed using STATA v.15 statistical software, taking surgical outcome as gold standard, and compared with the San Elián scale. Results: We recruited 108 patients with a diagnosis of diabetic foot, and 46.3% (n=50) of these were amputated. Among those who underwent amputation, 66% were male and their average age was 63.78±10.57 years. When applying the San Elian scale, 47.22% were moderate and 32.48% severe. Regression analysis identified higher risk of amputation in those with moderate (RR=6.03, 95%CI: 2.95-12.30, p<0.001) and severe (RR=12.5, 95%CI: 6.22-25.30, p<0.001) classification. Conclusions: Classification according to the Saint Elian wound scoring system as moderate and severe was significantly associated with the prognosis of diabetic foot amputation after hospital admission.
