Objective: To determine if there is an association between tobacco consumption as a risk factor for Prostate Cancer in the “Urology Service of Hospital Santa Rosa II - 2 Piura-Peru 2015-2019“. Methodology: it is an observational, retrospective case-control study. 240 patients were included who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria validated for this research work. The Statistical program IBM SSPS v.23, was used to analyze the data, and the subsequent tabulation of the same. To establish the association, the Chi Square test was used with a confidence level of 95% to subsequently analyze the risk through the Odds Ratio. Results: A sample of 240 patients in total was studied, of which 80 made up the group of cases and 160 the group of controls. Of the group of cases, 66.25% were smokers while the group of controls considerably decreased the percentage of tobacco consumption to 28.75%. Of the prostate cancer patients who smoke, 100% were moderate smokers. According to histopathological aggressiveness, most were moderate and severe, in 42.50% and 32.50% respectively. According to demographic characteristics, those over 70 years of age were the most affected (63.75%), 72.50% come from urban areas and 32.5% have secondary education. In the association test between tobacco use and prostate cancer, a significant result was obtained (p = 0.005), with an Odd-ratio of 4.865. Conclusions: Tobacco consumption has a significant association with prostate cancer, in addition, tobacco consumption increases the risk of developing prostate cancer by 4,865 times.
