Objective: This study evaluated the factors associated with the metabolic control of type 2 diabetic patients at the EsSalud II Reátegui Piura Hospital in 2017. Methods: A study was conducted in 236 patients enrolled in the Diabetes program of the Hospital Jorge Reategui Delgado in the period 2017, the clinical histories of the patients were reviewed, the main variable was defined as the value of glycosylated hemoglobin, which was categorized as adequate control at values less than 7%, and as inadequate at values greater than or equal to 7, other variables were age, sex, time of disease, body mass index, comorbidities such as high blood pressure, type of treatment, laboratory values such as urea, creatinine, lipid profile. Statistical analysis was performed in SPSS v.22. Results: Patients with inadequate metabolic control (glycated hemoglobin greater than or equal to 7) were found to be 149(63.14%), most patients were found to be using double therapy, of the patients with inadequate control 49.66% were receiving metformin plus glibenclamide. In the multivariate analysis, we found that the factors associated with inadequate metabolic control were those patients with double therapy with a ROP=1.40, 95% CI: 1.12-1.74, p value=0.003, and if the patient presented comorbidities such as high blood pressure and/or dyslipidemia ROP: 1.67, 95% CI: 1.14-2.44, p value=0.009. Conclusion: Prevalence of inadequate metabolic control was high in patients with type 2 diabetes, it was found to be associated with comorbidities and in those patients with double therapy.
