Objective: To demonstrate the relationship between the history of pelvic inflammatory disease and the appearance of ectopic pregnancy in women of reproductive age, treated in the Gynecology and Obstetrics service of the Hospital Santa Rosa II-2 Piura, during the years 2016-2018.Methodology: Quantitative, observational, retrospective study, unpaired cases and controls. 128 women of reproductive age were included, treated in the gynecology and obstetrics departments of the Hospital Santa Rosa - Piura. The computer programs: IBM SPSS v.23 and Microsoft Excel 2016, were used to analyze the data, and the subsequent tabulation of them. To establish the relationship between variables, the Chi-square test with a significance level of 5% was used to subsequently analyze the risk through the Odds ratio. Results: As main results, it was obtained that the use of IUDs is a trigger for developing an extrauterine pregnancy (p <0.01) (OR: 7.65, 95% CI 2.12 - 27.56), also, having a history of ectopic pregnancy (OR: 5.34, 95% CI 1.11 - 25.65). In addition, it is observed that not completing the treatment assigned to pelvic inflammatory disease (OR: 2.51. 95% CI 1.12 - 5.54) and having a pregnancy in a period less than one year of the diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease (OR: 4.62 IC 95 % 1.59 - 13.37) turned out to be triggers for developing extrauterine pregnancy. Conclusion: The triggers to develop extrauterine pregnancy are: IUD carriers, previous picture of extrauterine pregnancy, not completing treatment assigned to the diagnosed PID, having a gestation in a period less than one year of the diagnosis of PID.
