The Aim: Establish whether oligohydramnios is a risk factor for meconial aspiration syndrome, in neonates treated at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo from 2014 to 2018 Material and Methods: The design used in this research study was of the analytical retrospective observational type with the case-control design, in which it was performed in 296 neonates with meconial liquid amniotic of which 74 neonates had meconial aspiration syndrome and 222 neonates without meconial aspiration syndrome. Results: Neonates with meconial aspiration syndrome, had the following characteristics: 32.4% had acute fetal suffering; 18.9% are children of primary mothers; 16.2% were small for gestational age and 9.5% had low birth weight. The presence of mothers with oligohydramnios in neonates with meconial aspiration syndrome was 17.6% and in neonates without meconial aspiration syndrome reached 5.4% estimated an OR-3.7 with its IC95% from 1.62 to 8.59, whose statistical significance is p-0.002. Conclusions: The oligohydramnios pregnant women increased by 3.7 times the risk of neonates with meconial aspiration syndrome compared to pregnant women who did not have oligohydramnios.
