The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of an intervention program designed to develop environmental consciousness. Participants belonged to four public schools from the same Educational Management Unit in Lima (Peru), being a total of 427 students between 9 and 14 years old (M = 10.75 years, SD = 0.98; 51.5% males). The New Ecological Paradigm Scale was used to measure environmental attitudes among children (NEP_Ñ, Corraliza, Collado & Bethelmy, 2013). The results show that participants from schools in which the program was administered had higher scores in environmental consciousness, compared to participants from schools in which the program was not carried out. Moreover, there were significant differences when comparing the levels of environmental consciousness before and after the intervention, being the levels higher after the intervention program. The results suggest the need to implement intervention programs that promote a society more conscious about nature care. Pro-conservation behaviors promote a more ecologically sustainable society. Finally, it is described the additional psychological benefits of promoting environmental consciousness to encourage future research in this field.
