The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between parenting practices (i.e., control, autonomy granting, support), authoritative parenting style, and coping styles (i.e., productive, nonproductive, reference to others). Participants were 167 male adolescents (M = 15.28 years old; SD = 0.90). The Parenting Styles Scale (Steinberg et al., 1992) and the Adolescent Coping Scale (Frydenberg & Lewis, 1993), were used. Parental support and authoritative parenting style were positively associated with the productive coping style. By contrast, a negative correlation between autonomy granting and nonproductive coping style was found. It is suggested to promote positive parenting practices in order to promote a productive coping style.
