Objectives: To determine the association of the prevalence of dental erosion with the risk factors in school aged children 12-16 years old from “Las Brisas de Villa”, a public educational institution in the district of Chorrillos, Lima-Peru. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 406 school age children between 12 and 16 years old from a public educational institution. For the clinical analysis of dental erosion, the BEWE index was used, followed by a questionnaire addressed to school children that consisted of 18 questions related to risk factors such as systemic diseases, use of medications, gastro-esophageal disorders, eating habits, oral hygiene habits. The univariable analysis was obtained by descriptive statistics, absolute and relative frequency. To determine the association of the dental erosion with the risk factors, the Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used. Results: A prevalence of dental erosion of 23.89% was found. Regarding the relationship of dental erosion with the variables gender and age, there is no statistically significant difference. In addition, a statistically significant association was observed between dental erosion and the consumption of acidic fruits, such as lemon (p = 0.034). No association was found with the other factors studied Conclusions: It was found a prevalence of dental erosion of 23.89%. In addition, the consumption of acidic fruits, such as lemons, presented a statistically significant association with the prevalence of dental erosion.
