Currently, neither projects endowed with exceptional planning, optimal resources and rigorous implementation automatically achieve the desired results. Challenges, problems and incidents arise in every project life cycle and the project manager is responsible for maintaining control of the project until the end. That’s why, companies focused on the IT solutions choose to implement tools that meet their needs and help the project manager in his effort to ensure that the project is channeled, measured and controlled. One of the main causes of why projects fail is due to a lack of a reaction margin, which has great consequences such as the delays that are gradually accumulating, a misuse of resources or an entirely wrong decision-making. Proper control of the project is the key so it can meet the proposed objectives, because effective control requires effort and generally consumes 15% of the total effort of the project. According to the last annual study carried out by the Standish Group, 84% of the projects exceed the initially planned deadline, resulting in a large economic losses. Likewise, it indicates the one of the most influential factors and that has been manifested for more than 20 years, is that companies have weak controls, as a result, it is difficult for project manager to know the project progress status, given that no adequate techniques and tools are applied to control projects. The monitoring, evaluation and control processes continuously compare the current performance with the project implementation plan. If negative variations are found, its cause must be analyzed and possible corrective actions identifies. For this reason, the main purpose of this project is to implement a monitoring and control process model for software development projects that will generate relevant information for the decision-making in front of these negative deviations in projects.
