The main objective of the following investigation is to analyze which variables influence the level of sales of supermarkets and hypermarkets in Peru; in such a way that companies in this sector can apply various strategies in the short and long term against different scenarios. This research has six chapters. The first chapter shows a description of the structure and behavior of the retail and massive consumption sectors (to which supermarkets and hypermarkets belong), information on Peruvian consumer behavior, identification of macroeconomic variables and finally a theoretical description of the statistical methodology applied in the investigation. The second chapter shows a general diagnosis of the macroeconomic situation in Peru, the performance of the supermarket and hypermarket sector, and general aspects of the investigation plan. The third chapter describes the methodology used in the investigation. Also, approaching the problem identified, the fourth chapter shows the results obtained from the application of statistical methodology in order to determine those variables that have a statistically significant relationship with the level of sales of supermarkets and hypermarkets. The fifth chapter presents the analysis of the results obtained from the previous chapter, through the validation of the hypotheses raised in the investigation. As well as, the interpretation of the predictive variables of the optimal model regarding the level of sales of supermarkets and hypermarkets in Peru. Finally, the sixth chapter details the conclusions and recommendations obtained from the analysis developed.
