The relationship between dispositional optimism and job satisfaction was studied in a group of 154 employees, 80 women and 74 men, from a private coffee company in Lima. The workers responded to the Life Orientation Test - Revised (Seller & Carver, 1985) and the Job Satisfaction Scale S20 / 23 (Meliá & Peiró, 1989). The results showed a positive relation (p < .05) between dispositional optimism and job satisfaction, as well as relations with four of its factors: intrinsic satisfaction (p < .01), satisfaction with participation (p < .05), satisfaction with the physical environment (p < .05) and satisfaction with supervision (p < .05). Optimistic contributors may feel higher levels of job satisfaction due to the positive expectations that feedback the feeling of gratifying emotions.
