The aim of this investigation is to research the internationalization strategies used by the main gym chains in Latin America, and the main factor that impulsed their growth in the Peruvian market. Considering that the fitness sector is a relatively underdeveloped market, this investigation hopes to uncover the main strategies that guarantee success and assure them a share of the market. With this aim, the leading gym chains in Latin America, and that have a strong presence in the peruvian market (Smart Fit, Bodytech, Gold’s Gym), were analysed in order to identify what factors played a role in their entrance into Peru, as well as what strategies were used to enter markets in which they have a presence. The main gym chains in Latin America have a similar internationalization pattern, as they mainly apply a FDI strategy that comprises the use of mergers and acquisitions to consolidate themselves. Regardless, the factors that influence what market they chose to enter are: the underdevelopment of the fitness sector of the given country, as well as its cultural similarity.
