The present thesis analyzes the market conditions of Mexico and Peru. Mexico is a country with a mature manufacturing industry. Mexico presents favorable conditions for the development of its companies. Thanks to its geographical position, this country has developed great opportunities of internationalization. By other hand, Peruvian market is growing. Thanks to the economic reforms that were applied in the early nineties, the market began to walk in a competitive world. With the creation of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) in 2002, and with it, the merger of the Commission for the Promotion of Exports (PROMPEX) and the Promotion Commission of Peru (PROMPERÚ) into a new PROMPERÚ, it gives a twist to the policy of export promotion that includes the execution of a series of programs in favor of its SMEs, within the framework of the National Strategic Plan for Exports (PENX). In this way, the first companies with an international vision were born. Over the years, markets have become globalized. The consumer demands differentiated products. Therefore, industries are forced to look for global suppliers that meet the characteristics that are requested. In this context, global value chains emerge. In this regard, Mexico is a key model in the region as it is a country that has experience in inserting its SMEs into chains. The government, through Proméxico; established programs in favor of the development of SMEs, to insert them into global value chains; through clustering. At present, the Peruvian government intends to carry out the same process of internationalization. Therefore, throughout this thesis, we will evaluate which were the lessons of the Mexican experience that made it possible for SMEs’ of that country to be inserted efficiently in these chains; and evaluate if the same lessons could be replicated in our market.
