The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of an intervention program with mindfulness component for the reduction of precompetitive anxiety, which was adapted from programs that have demonstrated its effectiveness. The intervention consisted of 12 sessions of 1 hour duration. Participated in the study 33 martial sportsmen (M = 18.97 years, SD = 1.64, 69.7% men). Pre-competitive anxiety was evaluated with the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory -2 (CSAI-2R, Cox, Martens and Rusell, 2003), before and after the intervention period. According to the degree of participation in the intervention, the sample was divided into 2 groups: Control Group (CG, n = 16) and Experimental Group (SG, n = 17). The results showed significant differences and with large effect sizes in the posttest measurement of the EG, revealing a decrease in the levels of somatic, cognitive anxiety and an increase in the levels of self-confidence. While, in the CG, no significant differences were obtained and the effect sizes were irrelevant.
