The thesis aims to determine the most suitable type of dam for the Palo Redondo gully, among the alternatives Earth with Clay Core, Concrete Face Rrockfill and Roller Compacted Concrete evaluating Technical, Economical and Socio-Environmental criteria. First, a classification of the types of dam and general design criteria are presented, emphasizing the three types of dam to be evaluated. Hydrological design parameters as reservoir volumes and operating levels are then calculated. Baseline level designs were developed, by first a predimensioning was worked up, then a stability analysis, considering possible leaks to determine safety factors to Flip, Slide and Internal Stability of slopes, were developed. The construction process is then analyzed; aspects such as the material availability, skilled manpower aviability and machinery aviability were considered. The costs of each alternative, taking into acount excavations, fillings, waterproofing/consolidation injections and the approximately cost of the related works, were calculated. The socio-environmental impact generated by each alternative is also analyzed. Finally, a comparison matrix is presented, weights were assigned to each analyzed aspect following recommendations of experts to obtain a numerical result that supports the most convenient alternative, so that the choice is not subject to a subjective decision.
