Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) and adhesive remnant index (ARI) of two dental cements, TransbondTM XT (3M Unitek, Monrovia, California, USA) and OrthoCem (FGM, Joinville, Brazil). Materials and Methods: Sixty freshly extracted bovine incisors were randomly divided into four groups (n=15). In Groups A and B brackets were bonded with TransbondTM XT and OrthoCem respectively. In Group C brackets were bonded with TransbondTM XT with 500 thermocycles and in Group D brackets were bonded with OrthoCem with 500 thermocycles. The SBSs were measured with an Instron Universal testing machine (3382, Instron Corp., Canton, Mass) at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mn/min, data were recorded in megapascals (MPa). After the failure, the ARI was observed in a Digital Microscope Dino-Lite AM4515T8 Edge at 40x. Results: TransbondTM XT without thermocycling obtained a mean of 22.68 MPa and OrthoCem an average of 12.58 MPa of SBS. After thermocycling, TransbondTM XT obtained 14.79MPa and OrthoCem obtained a mean of 7.97 MPa. Conclusion: TransbondTM XT has higher values of SBS with or without thermocycling than OrthoCem.
