reportados, en los cuales se han testado extractos obtenidos con estos solventes ecológicos;
pruebas de citotoxicidad in vitro.
In this work, a review about the applicability of eutectic solventes, mainly deep eutectic solventes (DES) and natural deep eutectic solventes (NADES), for the extraction of bioactive compounds from natural products has been carried out. These alternative solventes, have not only shown to have high extraction yields, but also have shown to be environmentally friendly, exhibiting very low or almost no toxicity, compared to conventional organic solventes. The main extraction methods that have been most widely used in studies using these emerging solventes have been reviewed, as well as the various natural sources in which they have been used, including agro-food by-products. Likewise, different examples of reported bioactivity tests in which the tested extracts have been obtained with the studied DES or NADES have also been included; from antioxidant activity assays to studies in vivo with Wistar rats, through in vitro cytotoxicity tests. Finally, reported studies have been selected in order to identify the best DES /NADES extractive mixtures in terms of extraction yield, low toxicity, biodegradability and their influence on the bioactivity of the extracted compounds.
