This research was aimed at studying the physical-mechanical properties of the soil-cement masonry units, made with sand of the Vicho’s quarry, clay from the San Jeronimo’s bricks producers area and the Portland cement type IP, and the comparison of these with the baked clay masonry units made in Cusco city. The soil-cement is a resulting material from mixing pulverized soil with certain quantities of cement and water which are compacted and cured to obtain high densities and to obtain an effective hardening. For the study were made solid and holed soil-cement masonry units with percentages of cement from 5% to 9% by weight, the native soil characteristics were corrected by changing the percentages of clay and sand, following the recommendations of previous research and the water percentage was calculated from the test of Modified Proctor. For the compaction process, it was used the rammer or hammer of the Modified Proctor test and also two different curing processes. The tests performed to the units were: Weight determination, dimensional variation, warping, compressive strength, compressive strength of prisms, modulus of rupture, absorption, maximum absorption, saturation coefficient, suction and efflorescence. According to the results, the physical-mechanical properties of the soilcement masonry units improve in proportion to the amount of cement used, also after a comparison with the baked clay masonry units, was found that the first ones present similar characteristics and properties as the average baked clay bricks produced in the city of Cusco.
