In this study, the impact of access to sanitation on the spread of COVID-19 was evaluated for the period of the first wave, by applying global models with geographic information systems (GIS). The global spatial association between the variables related to sanitation, with the incidence rate of COVID-19 in the Rímac river basin, was analyzed through the use of global models such as ordinary least squares (OLS), spatial delay model (SLM) and the spatial error model (SEM). The degree of association between the level of access to sanitation services was evaluated, in addition to including sociodemographic and meteorological variables to determine their explanatory power. In addition, vaccination was not taken into account since this is a dynamic process and is still in the process of being applied. The results showed that the variables altitude and percentage of houses that are supplied with water by means of a tanker truck or another, were related in a negative and positive way, respectively, finding that this model is repeated in 7 of the 9 months with values of R2 for above 0.60. In addition, when presenting spatial autocorrelation, we sought to correct this by applying models that incorporate this phenomenon, finding an improvement in the coefficient of determination values, therefore, a better fit.
