In South America, Peru is the fourth country in sheep population and the first in camelids, being in 2014 the third exporter of sheep wool and the first of alpaca fiber, products for self-consumption and for sale to the market. In Puno, the largest amount of sheep wool and alpaca fiber is produced, with great potential for growth and development of the sector, generating foreign exchange and employment to improve the well-being of breeders and reduce poverty, which in 2019 reached 34,7 percent of the regional population. The objective was to determine the influence of real prices (2009=100), the exchange rate and rainfall in these productions, with econometric models and official statistics. It was found that sheep wool production decreased 0,84 percent, prices from 2003 began to increase, but with fluctuations, and alpaca fiber production grew 1,14 percent. It is recommended that MIDAGRI establish policies to promote sheep and alpaca farming, encouraging technological development with technical assistance and training, to obtain higher quality sheep wool and alpaca fiber and add value to the products.
