The present research was based on the development of a methodology for the manufacture of building materials through the reuse of depleted diatomaceous earths from the filtration process of brewing industry in Peru. The generation of solid waste from the filtration process is one of the biggest problems in the brewing industry due to the amount of waste that is produced and the costs involved to its final disposal. Therefore, it was proposed the alternative of the production of ecological bricks that offer quality and safety, through the application of a clean and appropriate technology, taking advantage of its properties for the construction of affordable housing. The method of construction materials development consists of five processes: treatment of depleted diatoms, dosing and weighing, mixing and kneading, molding and drying. The present study was carried out in three stages: preliminary I, preliminary II and final; preliminary stages I and II were carried out in the dosing and weighing process, while the final stage in the process of treatment of depleted diatoms, then an evaluation of the optimal mix was carried out to determine its classification according to the requirements table for the brick described in the TECHNICAL STANDARD E.070 MASONRY. It was concluded, a) that the optimal mixture for the ecological brick is composed of 15 percent depleted diatomaceous earth, 30 percent bentonite, 19 percent lime, 24 percent water and 12 percent volcanic ash; b) that diatomaceous earth initially treated with hydrochloric acid showed better compression resistance, with an average value of 23,3 Kg / cm2; and c) that the ecological brick obtained is classified as Type I “Very low strength and durability“ and suitable for masonry constructions under minimum service conditions.
